On Saturday 27th June 2009 teams of Scouts, aged 12 to 18, from across the region took over Hull’s City Centre as they were challenged to play a real-life version of the popular board game, Monopoly.
After leaving ‘GO’, situated at the KC stadium, the teams navigated their way around the city centre, stopping at various locations marked on the game board, and were faced with challenges to earn themselves points towards a range of fantastic prizes.
Challenges included things like circus skills, physical running tasks and puzzle solving.

 | 13/06/2009 | St Martins Church - 70th Anniversary
The people of Hull were challenged to keep their eyes on the sky as St Martins Church and the Archbishop of York (John Sentamu) released hundreds of balloons as part of their birthday celebrations.
The Balloons were sponsored for a minimum of one pound each and all the profits raised have been shared between the Guides and Scouts 2010 international adventures.

We went to our local VUE cinema to watch ‘Night of the Museum 2’. Unfortunately, the latest technology in our digital camera decided to play up – so we were unable to get any decent photos.

The Scouts had the opportunity to visit Pickering Road Police Station as well as learning about the Humberside Police lifestyle project which encourages young people, just like Scouting, to get outdoors and help their local communities and/or the world around them.

 | 09/05/2009 | Jamboree On The Trail
Follow that fish! This year we adventured the Seven Seas and followed an A-Z of fish swimming across Hull’s pavements. We were challenged to seek out a hidden shrimp, but also warned of the shark basking outside a high street bank! As well as chasing fish we used to day to visit a number of local attractions including the Ferens Art Gallery, Streetlife Museum and Spurn Lightship for example.

St George is our Patron Saint because of his faith and courage in the presence of a danger or difficulty – even a dragon. So, each year Scouts from all over the world celebrate in some way to remake their Promise and to remember the range of exciting and community based activities that the young people have undertaken in the last year.

The weekend included both an evening and daytime hike, creating and cooking on an open fire, some outdoor first aid training as well as a birthday bash for example.

Emergency stoves are made out of the rectangular mint tins, cardboard and candle wax. When lit, they act as a single stove and allow you to cook things like hot dogs. We’ll be using them on our weekend away.

Scouts are rewarded for their achievements by gaining badges which are worn on their uniforms - many of which involve the outdoors and respecting the surrounding environment. Creating bird boxes not only goes towards their Naturalist Badge, but it also helps the local wildlife.

Scouts are rewarded for their achievements by gaining badges which are worn on their uniforms, such as learning about their local community for example. The police talked about personal safety as well as discussing the effects of Anti-Social Behaviour on others.

With the very cold weather we couldn’t miss an opportunity for snowmen, snow angels and snowball fights! The evening then finished with giant jenga, twister, magnetic darts as well as other brought in activities as planned.

Pizza Hut was the location of our fantastic festive get together. Not only did we have a selection of delicious food, we also had balloons and crackers – which made our party go with a bang, oh and terrible jokes were guaranteed!

“He’s behind you!” As part of our Christmas celebrations we visited a local amateur pantomime... oh yes we did! The Scouts enjoyed singing, dancing, booing and cheering along!

Each Patrol had all the usual cooking equipment and utensils, but had only bamboo sticks and sticky tape to enable them to cook across the “shark invested” area.

Scouts from all over the West Hull district came together to put their Scouting knowledge to the test by pitching their traditional skills against others, as well as learning new ones and making new friends at the same time.

The Scouts weren’t starting with eating and ending with preparing the ingredients, nor cooking behind their backs... by backwards cooking we mean back to basics (campfire and limited equipment). The afternoon was in preparation of the upcoming District camp.

Hull Fair celebrated its seven hundredth anniversary in 1993 and is the largest travelling fair in Europe. The fair is held on a 16-acre site and involves over 250 attractions ranging from children's rides, side stalls, traditional rides and the latest up to date white-knuckle rides. The stalls are filled with the sights and smells of traditional fairground food from hamburgers and hot dogs to candy floss, toffee apples, pomegranates and even hog roast.

The hike under the stars put the Scouts map reading, navigation skills and teamwork to the test whilst allowing them to explore a large wooded area and make new friendships.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association wants a world in which all people who are blind and partially-sighted enjoy the same rights, opportunities and responsibilities as everyone else.

In Lincolnshire 3000 Scouts descended upon the County Showground for Poacher 2008. The exciting activities included things like mountain biking, gliding, and horse riding, to name but a few. Scouts travelled from as far and wide as Denmark, Norway, Canada and even Egypt!

The Scouts were split into teams to face a number of water based challenges to earn prizes, before been allowed to soak each other and ‘gang up’ on the leaders. After drying off and getting changed we had pizza and a few party games. The evening allowed the Scouts from Ascension to get to know everyone, ready and in time for Poacher.

Teams of Scouts and Explorer Scouts from across the County took over Hull’s City Centre as they were challenged to play the Hull edition of Monopoly for real. After leaving ‘GO’ the teams had navigate their way around the city stopping at a selection of the various locations marked on the game board to complete challenges and win prizes.

Young people do more exciting and adventurous activities with the Scouts than with any other organision. This weekend offered archery, air rifles, rock climbing, abseiling, ariel runway and an agility course as well as the more traditional Scouting skills such as first aid and pioneering for example.

The Hull Ice Arena is an Olympic sized ice rink in the city of Kingston upon Hull. The Arena has a capacity of around 2,000 and is home to the Hull Stingrays ice hockey team, as well as hosting a number of music concerts.

The No Way Trust is a national educational charity set up in 1995 by prison officers who wanted to make an impact on the lives of young people and turn them away from crime and its consequences.

Scarborough Sea Life introduced the Scouts to many strange, beautiful and fascinating creatures of the deep. The Marine Sanctuary included loads of astonishing close views of everything from a humble starfish to mighty sharks, all in displays which carefully recreate their natural habitats.
